I'm thankful to the readers of this website.  It has an international audience of people who aren't shy to use the feedback form at the bottom of every page.  These readers are generous with their time and effort to send me broken links, misspellings (pilots are terrible at spelling), and useful comments which add to and extend the topic at hand.  In the eight years I've been operating this website, there have been consistent themes in the feedback.  This has provided plenty of material for me to write and write and write.  This in turn helps other readers.  So thank you to all of you.

It's 2011 and times are tough.  The standard joke I tell is this:  "What's the difference between a pepperoni pizza and a CFI?"  Answer: "One feeds a family of four."  It's so hard to make a living as a CFI.  The work is irregular and fluctuates with the gas prices.  Honestly not many folks are flying or learning anymore.  Flight schools are not nearly making money as they did in years past because the students aren't there.   Who has $20k to buy your private pilot certificate anymore?   And a Cessna that might have cost you $50-75/hour to rent back in the day now costs $150/hour.  Phew, times are tough.

The Future is Digital... TV
This year will also see the addition of quite a few video productions to this website and a new partner website called aviaTV.com.  When the new website goes live, you'll see the link on the top menu bar.  You'll slowly start to see videos creep into the site prior to its launch.  The plan is to continue free aviation education to all comers.  Yes, while the economy was in the dumper during 2009 and early 2010, I've been spending cash like its going out of style building a TV studio next to my house. Not a smart business move as I can't figure out how to get any return on my investment.
Website Technical Aspects & History
This website contains 42 pdf files, 434 images, 1 google robot, and 416 content pages (html files) and is best viewed with internet explorer in 1024x768 resolution.  This website was designed & created completely with Netscape Composer versions 7.2.  The header graphic was created by Tomasz Brymora, a talented graphics designer and web developer (and multi-engine & instrument rated, private pilot). This website in its current form was started October 2002 as a simple 20 page business card.  From the very beginning, the search engines picked it up and today its fully indexed by all of the largest providers.Support this Website

It costs several thousands dollars a year to keep this free resource online.  It literally costs thousands of dollars a year to keep this free resource online.  I fund the website from donations, the stuff I sell in the pilot store (take a look) and the advertising links to the right.  My site receives an enormous amount of traffic, and I'm handling about 155 requests for information weekly, all as a public service.  I constantly add content depending on requests & questions I receive, search terms used to find this website, and student experiences.  Content is added weekly, so check this website often.  I'd love to hear your thoughts to make it better.

One Million Hits!
In its 7th year of operation, this website gets between 25,000 to 35,744 hits per month.  March 2008 was our highest traffic month to date at 35,744 unique visitors.  It took 4 years to hit our quarter-millionth viewer in October 2006 It only took nine months to reach a half-million visitors in July 2007.  It took 4 years to get to 250,000 hits and doubled that in the 5th year to get 1/2 million hits.  On Labor Day, 2009 (September 7th, 2009), this website achieved a major milestone:  one million hits.  In less than 7 years this website has gone from a 20 page business card to an information portal that focuses on providing information.  Over the next year, you'll see a variety of new exciting changes... I'm looking for another million hits!

Usage reports provided by my hosting provider are analyzed to determine referring page, search terms used, and popular topics.  To make the website more valuable to pilots, new content is added based on the results of those usage reports.  Major updates are posted every two months with almost constant, daily additions.  Major website updates and raw traffic count numbers directly from my hosting provider:
