Steep TurnsThe Feathered Prop of a Dutchess BE-76
  • Power 20" @ 2400rpm
  • 45 or 50 degrees of bank +/- 5 degrees
  • Two 360 degree turns, first to the left, then right or as directed
Slow Flight
  • Power 15"
  • Gear down below 150mph
  • Flaps down below 130mph
  • Mixture/Prop Forward
  • Power 19" to maintain desired altitude
  • Airspeed 90mph
  • Remember: pitch controls airspeed, power controls altitude
Slow Flight Recovery
  • Power Up - full power
  • Pitch Up - climb blue line
  • Clean Up - flaps, gear up
Power Off Stall
  • Power 15"
  • Gear down below 150mph
  • Flaps down below 130mph
  • Mixture/Prop Forward below 110mph
  • Power to idle at 90mph then maintain altitude into your stall
Power Off Stall Recovery - "Pitch-Power-Drag-Climb"
  • Pitch - nose just below the horizon
  • Power - full power
  • Drag - flaps, gear up
  • Climb - blue line
Power On Stall
  • Power 15", 75% power
  • Mixture/Prop Forward below 110mph
  • Attitude - nose just above the horizon
Power On Stall Recovery - "Pitch-Power-Drag-Climb"
  • Pitch - nose just below the horizon
  • Power - full power
  • Drag - flaps, gear up
  • Climb - blue line
Vmc Demonstration
  • Power - full (smoothly)
  • Mixture Prop Throttle - full (smoothly)
  • Critical engine - idle "guard the good"
  • Slow the aircraft until imminent loss of directional control (MEI, guard the rudder)
  • Power - idle on the good
  • Pitch - blue line
  • Add power SMOOTHLY at blue line
  • Maintain airspeed & directional control on single engine
Drag Demo - for MEI Checkride only
  • Power - full (smoothly)
  • Mixture Prop Throttle - full (smoothly)
  • Critical engine - idle "guard the good"
  • Maintain airspeed & directional control on single engine
  • Gear down below 150mph
  • Flaps down below 130mph
  • Maintain blue line - Note VSI
  • Gear Up - Blue Line - Note VSI
  • Flaps Up - Blue Line - Note VSI
  • Sim Feather - 12" - Blue Line - Note VSI
Emergency Descent - "Chop-Drop-Prop"
  • Chop - power idle
  • Drop - gear down
  • Prop - full forward
  • Pitch for 150mph, bank away from the burning engine, 30 degrees should do it
Engine Failure on Runway
  • "Abort Abort Abort"
  • Chop - power idle
  • Stop - apply brakes
  • Maintain directional control on runway
Instrument Approaches
  • You'll be expected to perform partial panel and single engine approaches on your add-on checkride if you are instrument rated.
  • If you are ATP rated, expect to perform a partial panel, single engine approach.
